As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Mississippi. U.S. News & World Report ranks Mississippi as one of the country's top ten states for its cost of living. Based on data from the 2012 U.S. Census, there was 38,076 farms found in the state, covering a total of 11 million acres (equivalent to 35 percent of land in the state).
