WINGSHOOTING PARADISE in north central Kansas, is located on the Great Plains, where the Mid-grass Prairie (side-oats grama and wheatgrass, with a mixture of shortgrass prairies in dry sites and tallgrass in wetter sites) and the Tall-grass Prairie (big bluestem, Indian grass, and switch grass growing to heights of eight feet at times) converge. At approximately 170 miles west of Kansas City, KS, 100 miles north of Wichita, 20 miles southwest of Abilene and 20 miles southeast of Salina, the ranch is halfway between Salina and Abilene. Salina is the regional hub for industry/business, medical facilities, education and the arts, featuring the historic Stiefel Theatre, airport and over 1000 acres of parks and recreation. Historic Abilene is the boyhood home for Dwight Eisenhower, which also includes the Presidential Library and grounds. Abilenes western spirit continues as it was part of the Chisholm Trail. The Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo is an annual summer event. Abilene affords a vast array of cultural experiences for the entire family.

European man discovered the rich soils that exist in the prairies about 150 years ago. Finding the prairie soils outstanding for crop production, they plowed the prairie everywhere they could for the production of wheat, corn, and other domestic crops. Today, the most fertile and well-watered region, the tall grass prairie, has been reduced to only 1% of its original area, which makes it one of the rarest and most endangered ecosystems in the world. The largest remaining area that has not succumbed to the plow is in the rocky and hilly region of Kansas called the Flint Hills, which is roughly 60 miles wide and stretches from the Nebraska border, through east-central Kansas, south into northern Oklahoma.

The current owner diligently searched for and discovered this property and when it was identified, purchased it for a full-time residence. With the goal of "creating the strongest wildlife property in Kansas" in mind, the owner set about, strategically locating water sources, cover and feed for the native species of wild game. Over the course of the last decade, ponds and lakes have been built and improved, trees have been planted on contours to create travel corridors and loafing cover and food plots have been planted throughout the property to draw pheasant, turkey, quail, ducks, geese and whitetail deer from the surrounding areas. The results have been nothing less than spectacular! The bass in the 4 1/2 acre pond have thrived. The upland birds and waterfowl frequent the place in great numbers and the whitetail deer are drawn like a magnet. The 40' x 70' shop includes kennels and runs for 8 dogs, all on heated concrete floors. There is also a 3.4 acre "dog pasture" off the kennels, for daily exercising of the canines.

There is a 120' x 240' manicured riding arena and a 50' round pen for horse work, as well as a corral and loafing shed.

The owner has continued to graze cattle and horses on the rich native grasses including bluestem and Indian grass, as well as putting up hay (600 bales this year) to feed through the winter.

Eighty-five acres have been left in production for wheat, milo and/or soy beans.
