Lesser-known trails in The Park lead to protected tidal pools, oceanside and streamside trails. Outside The Park, Kipahulu offers access, via six community easements, to fresh water pools and other notable ocean locations, as well as numerous historic sites with significant Hawaiian archeology. Access to the sites along these easements is exclusively for local residents only, making for an extra special perk for those who live here.

A short, scenic drive will take you to Hana town. Besides its small-town charm, there are most of the services you will need. Hana is also home to Hamoa Beach, which is often listed as one of Hawaii’s top ten beaches. Other gems in the Hana area are the hidden Red Sands Beach, and black sand beaches at Wai?anapanapa State Beach Park. Also nearby is the Kaupo Gap Trail. Its rugged path leads to the summit headquarters of Haleakala National Park, and is a favorite for avid hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
