The hunting on the Rockpile Ranch has been consistently good for decades. Currently the ranch qualifies for 4 LOP tags for deer and 4 LOP tags for elk. Those tags can be used for two of the most highly coveted units in Oregon, the Ochoco and the Murderers Creek units. The current owners (or guests) have harvested 36 branch antler bulls off the ranch and numerous bucks. The ranch has a large and diverse array of wildlife. Black bears, bobcats, cougars, antelope, bighorn sheep, chukars, huns and occasionally beavers call the ranch home. There is incredible chukkar hunting and great cat hunting on the ranch as well. Bobcats and chukars both love the rims and topography of the ranch and mountain lions love all the mule deer and craggy bluffs that surround the river. One huge bonus to the ranch is the shed horn hunting. The Rockpile is immediately adjacent to the Phillip Schneider wildlife area that hosts thousands of elk in the winter. Because of the unique proximity of the ranch, many bucks and bulls winter on the ranch. The owners have at times picked up as many as 30 sets of sheds in one pasture alone! The ranch is immediately adjacent to the Ochoco National Forest, and thousands of acres of BLM and state land to extend your hunting opportunities. There is an estimated 700,000 bf of merchantable timber on the ranch with the primary species being Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine.
