R.D. Dee Hubbard was born in Smith Center, Kansas in 1935, the youngest of eight children.

After entering the glass business in Wichita, Kansas in 1959, R. D. soon emerged as one of Americas most enterprising businessmen. He took two nearly bankrupt glass companies and soon turned them into a company that became the second largest glass manufacturer in North America before the company was sold in 1992.

Mr. Hubbards illustrious career in horse racing began in the 1960s. His ownership interest in horse racetracks was from almost every corner of the United States. He was instrumental in establishing the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, and as a member of the Board of Directors, he co-founded its Racing Integrity and Drug Testing Task Force. In 2007, Mr. Hubbard was awarded the John W. Galbreath Award for outstanding Entrepreneurship in the Equine industry. Mr. Hubbard has served as Vice Chairman of Breeders Cup and has been active with the organization for many years. Throughout his career, Mr. Hubbard has campaigned more than 100 American Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred stakes winners, and because of his achievements and impact on the industry, Mr. Hubbard was honored by the American Quarter Horse Association with a Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2009. In the spring of 2014, Mr. Hubbard was inducted as a member of the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans.

Mr. Hubbard originally established the Crystal Springs Farm west of Paris, Kentucky. This area of Kentucky is in the heart of Thoroughbred country. Mr. Hubbard sold his Kentucky property and moved his entire Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse operation to Tularosa, New Mexico in 2007. The love and passion behind Crystal Springs Farm are evident in the detail and quality of his New Mexico facility which was built from the ground up starting in 2007. This area of New Mexico was chosen because of the mild climate and proximity to Ruidoso Downs Racetrack. The average rainfall is approximately 12 inches with an average high temperature of 76 degrees and average low of 47 degrees. The facility construction incorporates many of the same features found in his Kentucky Crystal Springs Farm. The facilities have ample room for preparation of colts to be trained and sold. Additional revenue for boarding mares and their colts is also a benefit. Ruidoso Downs has annual summer sales and colts from Crystal Springs Farm frequently sell through these sales.

Crystal Springs Farm has been operating as a highly successful broodmare program. The R.D. Hubbard Crystal Springs Farm has raised and trained many successful winners, both in Kentucky and New Mexico. For a short period of time A Revenant stood at the Crystal Springs Farm. Crystal Springs Farm received great response from the public as well as other breeders. This facility has the capacity with 183 stalls to incorporate a World Class Stallion program, and the facility would be the premier breeding and mare farm in the country. Within a mile of Crystal Spring Farm is a highly successful veterinary clinic for large animals. There are four (4) MD Barnmaster custom designed horse barns with 183 total stalls. These are all custom made professional equestrian facilities.

The Big Mare Barn contains approximately 19,992 square feet and includes 34 stalls, each 16 foot by 16 foot, with rubber mat floors, two wash bays, tack room with bathroom and washer and dryer hookup. Hot water to the wash bays is supplied by Rinnai tankless water heaters (propane). There are two offices, storage areas and lobby area. The barn is equipped with a fly spray system.

The Small Mare Barn contains approximately 5,880 square feet and includes 19 stalls, each 12 foot by 12 foot, with rubber mat floors, and tack room with sink. The barn is equipped with a fly spray system. There is a European style walker just outside of the small mare barn.

The Yearling Barn contains approximately 5,738 square feet and includes 54 stalls, each 12 foot by 10 foot, with rubber mat floors, 2 tack rooms, and restroom with washer and dryer hookup. The wash bay has hot water supplied with Rinnai tankless water heater (propane). The barn is equipped with a fly spray system. There is a European style walker just outside of the yearling barn.

The Training Barn contains approximately 21,501 square feet and includes 58 stalls, each 12 foot by 12 foot, with automatic drinkers, rubber mat floors in the stalls, rubber mat shedrow floors, two wash bays, three large storage areas, washer and dryer hookup and bathroom with shower. The two wash bays have hot water supplied by Rinnai tankless water heaters (propane). There is a studio apartment for trainers, employees or guests, large lobby, office, paved parking and storage area. The entrance to the training barn is stucco and stone. To the north of the Training Barn is an open air and heated barn with 4 stalls each measuring 20 foot by 20 foot. In addition, there is a shedrow style barn with 14 stalls, each measuring 12 foot by 12 foot. The Training Barn includes a fire suppression system that is installed and ready to activate. The fire suppression system has three large water storage tanks that are tied into the system to provide adequate water for fire suppression. The training barn has two conventional walkers located on each side of the barn, plus a round pen.

Race Track - The facility includes a six-tenths mile oval racetrack and a 350 yard straightaway track. The racetrack is 40 feet wide with a 4 horse starting gate. The track was constructed with interior and exterior safety rails. The track was designed by Dennis Moore. The tracks surface material was delivered, groomed and represents the best and safest training track for any horse.

The irrigated fields and paddocks are watered with a 300 gallon per minute well (100 acre feet water right allocation) located on the northeast corner of the property. A 10 inch main waterline from the well ties into other water lines ranging from 8 inch, 6 inch, 4 inch and 2 inch. The 10 inch waterline runs around the perimeter of the tract. There is a 1,515 foot (198 drops) Zimmatic Linear sprinkler on the center paddocks and a 421 foot (51 drops) Zimmatic Linear sprinkler on the south paddocks. Several of the smaller paddocks are watered with above ground Nelson Model irrigation guns. The paddocks are planted in Giant or common Bermuda Grass for grazing.

There are 44 paddocks that were built with the Kentucky Style wood plank fence construction. The paddocks are all 4 wood plank, round upright wood post, round or oval perimeter, with no corners for the safety of the horses in mind.

The main dwelling on the property is an approximate 5,800 square foot custom built home, which was constructed in 1972. The main home has been remodeled and appliances upgraded since the Hubbard purchase in 2007. The home features 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, with a large master bedroom. The interior and exterior walls are all of adobe construction. The exterior walls are finished with stucco and the interior walls are all plastered and painted. There are two large family rooms including a large gathering or entertainment area. The home has central heat and air. On two sides of the home is a large covered porch area for entertainment.
