This fabulous ranch is located on the Devils River arm of Lake Amistad where the river becomes the lake only 15 miles from bustling Del Rio as the crow flies, and less than 30 miles by vehicle over pavement all of the way. Del Rio and its sister city, Villa Acuna, now approach 150,000 in population, and offer the finest in shopping, entertainment, culture, diverse & vibrant economies and outdoor activities. A paved, lighted 6,300 landing strip in Del Rio is a 40 minute drive from the ranch gate. Lake Amistad Reservoir National Recreation Area borders the ranch for over 25 miles, and one can boat cruise along 10 miles of linear shoreline attached to it. The ranch entrance is less than a three hour drive from San Antonio, and about four hours from Austin.

The area consists of 5,000+ acre working/recreational ranches, with a significant % of land across and upstream from the site protected by conservation easements designed to preserve forever the pristinity of the teal blue, gin clear Devils River. There is some small tract development nearby and across the lake, very little of which is intrusive upon this property.
This ranch features over 10 miles of mostly accessible frontage on deep, blue Lake Amistad, one of the very finest all-around recreational lakes in America. World-class fishing is the main event, including several bass species, catfish, crappie, tilapia and others. A rocky shoreline, tranquil coves and submerged trees contribute to varied fishing opportunities, and the spring white bass run along the Devils River is rated as excellent.
The ranch is home to five fascinating coves, each with limestone cliffs, gravelly beaches and glass-smooth water. Kayaking in these coves and along the shoreline is superb, as is floating, swimming, diving and water skiing. The water is clear, deep and clean, offering stark contrast to the Chihuahuan high desert plains emerging above, and these coves retain water even during times of low lake levels. The upper section of water frontage on this ranch varies from shallow, green-teal lake to a wide, rushing river tumbling over table-size boulders into an endless series of crystal clear pools. The lower 2/3 of water frontage is deep lake water even in the driest of times, historically. This ranch was historically used to raise sheep and goats, with hunting becoming an increasingly important source of revenue over time. The ranch is currently managed for wildlife, and has a wildlife plan and property tax exemption.
The improvements are useful, yet not extensive. The road systems are excellent and being improved at this writing, with many miles of 30 mph ranch roads of packed caliche base and crowned centers. Water crossings have ample culverts, and jeep trails provide access to many nooks and crannies.
The main house is 2 BR, 2 BA, and is constructed of stone with many picture windows offering panoramic views from a spectacular vantage point high on a hill. It is open and airy, completely furnished, has large country kitchen, fireplace and most amenities necessary to make almost anyone feel right at home. About a mile away, the bunkhouse is 2 BR, 1 BA, of stone construction and is fully furnished, and the adjacent modular home is 3 BR, 2 BA, and also is furnished with all amenities either in place or readily available. There are three water wells, 2 electric and 1 windmill, supplying fresh drinking and stock water to the dwellings and water troughs through an underground system of heavy plastic pipes. There are several stock ponds that are maintained by this water system as well. Fencing and crossfencing is marginal, and there is a set of good holding pens at the bunkhouse, along with a large concrete water storage reservoir, game cleaning rack and shed.
A lakeside lodge is in the planning stages, and an existing dirt airstrip is being upgraded as part of the ongoing improvement package. Also in the works is road and airstrip construction, development of hiking trails & picnic sites and additions to the water systems.
In summary, Rancho Diablo Azul offers the wild, expansive feeling of West Texas, but is within easy 3 hour driving distance of San Antonio. The intrigue of Mexico, the recreational value of Lake Amistad, the quantity and quality of wildlife and the surreal beauty of the surrounding countryside contribute to a product that is totally unique, yet one of the best live-water values on the public market. You are welcome to come spend the weekend and take a guided tour of this premier ranch with one of our professional staff. You will leave full of wonderment and relaxation, we are certain!
