Needless to say, I get excited about every potential listing but I couldn’t find out more details about this one fast enough! Further conversations about the property then reveal that it is not only a private lake but so much more which we’ll get into all the details that make this property a true one-of-a-kind opportunity in the western part of the state. Before I continue, there will be pictures updated to the site as spring progresses, the snow and ice begin to melt and the masses of waterfowl return to the area. However, if you haven’t done so already, you owe it to yourself to play the property video first and foremost and then take a look at the aerial photos. Also, click on the view full screen link for the interactive map of this property in the upper left corner of the opening page. These alone give you a great idea of all the features the property offers. This property is located approximately 14 miles north of Ortonville and 10 miles from the South Dakota border. I get asked all the time as to where one should go to own a true waterfowl property in the state and this area, traditionally known as the Prairie Pothole region, is the area that I consider to be one of if not the best area in the state for waterfowl hunting. One look at the aerial maps and you will see why with the vast array of shallow lakes and sloughs in the area which this property lies right in the middle of.The property is currently owned and utilized by a professional waterfowl outfitter which says something on its own. Not only is there the main lake which has been dubbed Kelgoose Lake but there is another satellite waterfowl slough dubbed Hidden Troy Slough as well. Both of these come with 9 established blinds (the lake has 5 and the slough has 4) that have been strategically positioned to accommodate any wind direction. The lake has an existing solid boat landing even in wet conditions and will accommodate even larger boats and there is another landing area at the slough as well. There is also an approximately 5-acre building site that has power running up to it and all of this is accessed through the privately owned driveway off of the county highway.Seasons of successful hunts have taken place on these bodies of water with various species of waterfowl shot throughout the year. The best part of it all is that it is all set up for the new owner to step right in and take advantage of it and if desired, build yourself a hunting lodge or your dream western prairie home. Now, more about the lake as if you’re like me, you’re curious as to more details. The lake is approximately 1 mile long by just under a half-mile wide at its widest point. The seller states that it has a max depth of approximately 15 feet with averages around 10 feet. Being again in the professional waterfowl business, the seller's desire has been to keep the lake quiet in the off-season so he really hasn’t fished it all that much. He states that he has witnessed fish surfacing when he has been on the water and prior to his ownership, a top-producing minnow lake. With this, curiosity got the best of him and he ran some fish traps for 3 4 years. His traps only allow for the capture of smaller fish and they have had catches containing ample crappie and perch. He assumes a variety of fish are in there and originally stocked by the minnow trappers and has people asking him to fish it. I realize this isn’t a lot of evidence of say 28 plus walleyes but the point is that it will support fish with an ample food source so the opportunity to stock whatever species of fish is real. The seller is also open to a truly interested and qualified buyer to spend a day on the water fishing. Also, the lake itself has not been officially named and recorded with the state so one can name their own lake if they so choose to do so.Moving aside from the property itself the area is dotted with hundreds of acres of state land to allow for one to chase pheasants and let’s also not forget about Big Stone Lake or Lake Traverse being close by for other fishing opportunities.I could go on and on about this property but just give me a call and I’d be glad to go over any further details!
