The stunning 1,524 square foot custom log home consists of 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a loft, and a spacious open main living area. Spectacular river and mountain views can be witnessed from every window in the home. Artistic interior design characteristics such as the hand-hewed Ponderosa Pine logs, rough sawn pine flooring with antique nails, copper accents, 100+-year-old barn wood from the old stage stop just down the road, and natural local stones throughout add to the home’s rustic style.
The inviting kitchen has plenty of barn wood cabinets with brightly-painted open shelving uppers for storage. Additionally, the copper and tile counter tops, copper farm sink and pine backsplash add to the kitchen’s appeal. The kitchen has ample space for cooking and even has room for an informal dining area.
The kitchen flows right into the open and spacious main living area which highlights a Vermont Castings woodstove, large abundant windows, and vaulted ceilings. There is space for a large seating area in front of the rustic wood stove, as well as a formal dining area. Large sliding glass doors lead directly onto the redwood deck where you can witness the stunning views of the river bends.
A peaceful bedroom on the main level is well lit by its large windows and is accessible through French doors off the kitchen area. The main level also showcases a laundry area and a full bathroom with a copper sink, river rock accent wall, and an antique clawfoot tub.
For additional accommodations or a studio space, there is an open loft on the upper level that has two generous size dormers, a crystal chandelier, and private access to second redwood deck. A rustic wrought-iron railing skirts the loft, providing a beautiful view of the living space below.
The acreage of this remote haven contains numerous amenities including multiple camping spots, a sandy beach on the river, space for a potential greenhouse or garden, mature cottonwood and aspen trees, as well as a small orchard with several cherry and plum fruit trees. The 55 gpm well produces beautiful water and deeded water rights are included with the property. The fully fenced gated property is ideal for horses with its pasture, all horse friendly fencing, corrals, and loafing shed for hay storage. There is also a fully-enclosed, small shed located on the property as well for extra storage space and the road to the property is all paved.
Avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the approximately 500 feet of river frontage where you go swimming, floating, or watch the spawning Chinook Salmon. In addition to the Chinook, you will also find Cutthroat Trout, Bull Trout, Rainbow Trout and Rocky Mountain Whitefish. Along the river’s edge, is a wooden sun deck that is ideal for setting up a teepee, hosting barbeques, or meditating. The teepee camp was also used as an Airbnb accommodation with a state of the art composting toilet and outdoor shower. The property's tranquil setting and proximity to the river also attracts a variety of area wildlife including elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, eagles, foxes, and occasionally moose.
This gorgeous log home is nestled on the edge of Sawtooth National Forest and the Cecil D. Andrus White Clouds Wilderness Area in the historic and scenic Custer County, Idaho. Custer County is located in Central Idaho and its landscape consists of arid desert, flat green valleys, and rugged rocky peaks. It contains the highest mountain in Idaho, Mount Borah at 12,662 ft.
Custer County encompasses much of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness and the famous Salmon River “River of No Return”. Within its boundaries, you will also find the Sawtooth National Recreation Area.
The newly-named Cecil D. Andrus White Clouds Wilderness area is located in the Sawtooth National Recreation area and was designated a wilderness area in 2015. It was named after the former Idaho Governor Cecil D. Andrus in 2018. The area is special due to its combination of sub-alpine lakes, abundant creeks, hiking trails, and the limestone and metamorphic silicates which give the mountain peaks their striking white appearance. There are trailheads for horse packing to the numerous high lakes which are only minutes away and hot springs within 23 miles of the roads end.
Another popular recreational destination just 39 miles from the property is the mountain community of Stanley, Idaho. Stanley’s jagged peaks of the Sawtooth Mountain Range offer another backcountry escape. Stanley provides all the same outdoor opportunities as well as off-roading, river rafting, biking, snowmobiling, and mountain climbing. It is also home to the crystal-clear waters of Red Fish Lake. At the lake, you will find the Redfish Lake Lodge, a campground, waterfront cabin rentals, water sports, and boat tours.
The property is also not far from the internationally-recognized Sun Valley Resort, just 58 miles via gravel backroads in the summer and 100 miles via all paved roads in the winter. The Sun Valley and Ketchum area is one of the world’s premier four-season mountain resort towns. It is an entertainment mecca featuring art galleries, live performances, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, water sports, bicycling, hot springs, public parks, and gardens. Visitors and residents of this community enjoy year-round events such as the Sun Valley Film Festival, the Sun Valley Opera Summer Festival, Hailey Days of the Old West Celebration, Sun Valley Wagon Days, and the Sun Valley Jazz & Music Festival to name a few. It is also not far from Silver Creek Preserve, which is a world famous blue ribbon trout stream.
