The Big Cavern Ranch log cabin was built circa 1915 and was recently refurbished to include new chinking, roofing and waterproof and protective stain inside and out all within the past 5 years. A 30 vine vineyard with an assortment of grape species is well established behind the cabin and several small fruit tree clusters, one near the pond and one in back are beginning to bear good fruit. The channel catfish in the pond in front of cabin are fed daily and several are close to 10# fish.
Two incredible caves are located under the property. Allie Spring and Mill Creek Cave. Both caves are gated and managed by the Kansas City Area Grotto (KCAG) Cave Club who conduct quarterly survey team excursions into Allie as they continue their survey efforts. With close to 3 miles of cave surveyed and 4 Leads yet to follow they are reasonably confident there is much more Allie Spring cave to be mapped and the Cave Club would like very much to continue their relationship with the next owner as they tame this beast of a cave. It's plausible Allie could connect to the nearby 12 mile Grimzinsky Cave. The spelunkers will be happy to provide the new owners personal guides if they'd like to tour the caves.
Mill Creek cave is fully mapped and local folklore states Jesse James was chased by Pinkertons into the right branch located 100 yards inside of Mill Creek Cave and the branch was dynamited in an attempt to seal him in. The breakdown in front of the cave has since settled and the current owners two young grandsons were able to scramble over the breakdown and push onward down the right branch which was eventually blocked again. There are numerous subterranean branches which could explain how he escaped and make this local folklore legend of Jesse James plausible. There is an excellent camping site there at the right branch junction called not surprisingly "Jesse James Base Camp". A prehistoric cave bear bed was recently found 50' in breakdown behind camp and several large "Short Face Cave Bear" beds can be found throughout both caves. The bear beds are huge and the claw marks seen throughout both caves are incredible to say nothing of the formations found in both caves. The Short Face Cave bear roamed here with Saber Tooth Tigers and Mammoths 12,000 years ago. The "Salt Cellar" is an amazing crawl through the whitest flow stone and formation collection I have ever seen. Base Camp in Allie is a half mile in after the 847' wet suit water crawl and well stocked with emergency items in waterproof 5 gallon pails and include MREs, Space blankets, iodine tablets, candles etc. and of course a Buddha Shrine for safe passage.
This property has been managed by the owner over the past 15 years under the strict guidelines found within the Quality Deer Management Association (QDMA). Numerous clover heavy 'feeding' and 'ambush' type food plots were bulldozed and are found all over the property. The "Trump Tower" tree stand is a great example of the quality food plots and outstanding shooting opportunities here which abound. Turkey are very prolific and are found on all of the food plots. Coyote hunting in the NE corner with a good electronic call is amazing.
There are two Springs/Creeks which run all year and Mill Creek has creek fish and crawdads.
Two hour drive to downtown St. Louis, three hour forty five minute drive to Kansas City, and Springfield is one hour and thirty minutes away.
