Located southwest of Eskridge, Kansas sits one of the most lustrous longtime family-owned ranches that holds all the top-end native grasses and water the Flint Hills have to offer, along with rich history and breathtaking endless 360-degree views on the 635-acre pasture commonly known as the Wade Pasture.
Going back in history, the now ranch was a funneling point of a 3-trail system that spread across the open range prairie and was traveled by Native Americans, armies, immigrants, and more, leading their journey west. The land was then purchased in 1880 by a Lawrence businessman by the name of Achilles Wade, then was purchased by a descendant of the now current owners in the late 1800s. The family has left the longstanding Wade Pasture name for the life of the ranch.

Today, the pasture holds a main travel route for sitting along Old K-4 Road and provides year-round well-maintained access. Climbing up from Eskridge, the elevation changes are dramatic and once at the gate entrance of the ranch, you are at one of the highest points in the area, known as Gun Barrel Hill, overlooking Lake Wabaunsee.
Entering the pasture, the native bluestem grass has been exceptionally well maintained with a strong stand and as clean as they come throughout the entire ranch. Driving throughout, the prairie chicken pack that was bumped were tough to see nestled in the thick grass stand. There are 4 watering ponds throughout in above average condition, majority spring fed with 2 recently receiving new dam work and drain tubes. Several natural springs run year-round and feed the below Lake Wabaunsee to the north. Water on the pasture is superb with an even balance throughout. The fencing throughout is in average condition with majority 5-strand barbed wire. There are 3 high pole gate entrances throughout with 4 additional gate entrances allowing ideal access to move livestock and burn. Primary access for loading and unloading in the southwest corner and the northeast corner. A wing fence runs off the northeast corner funneling to the alley that kicks out on the east section along Old K-4 Road. The current tenant holds the 2023 lease and has been tried and true remaining in place for over 60 years and grazes the summer 90-120 day grass.
In 2007 the ranch was the host site of the Symphony in the Flint Hills and will be returning this year as the 2023 host site. With the picturesque landscape at the highest elevation and a backdrop overlooking Lake Wabaunsee, there is no question why this ranch is a favored location.
