The land is mostly sandy loam soil covered with native grasses. About 80% of the property is wooded with tons of mature post oaks and a few mature live oaks and elms. Stockdales city park would be the envy of much larger communities. First celebrated in 1937, the Stockdale Watermelon Jubilee is one of the oldest watermelon festivals in Texas. Always the third weekend in June, the Jubilee is a refreshing slice of summertime fun.
