Trout Fishing Neighbor

Nebraska’s Snake River is truly one of the great trout fisheries of America!  Though much less known then that by the same name in Idaho and Wyoming, has been called by certain gurus  that have been fortunate enough to “present” Hoppers or Parachute Adams to its surface, as one of the top ten fly-fishing destinations in the Unitied States.  Its quality can be attributed to a few things.  For one, its shear habitat is ideal!  Number two, is that it is not a household word.  But one of the other biggest contributors to it’s prolific population of large 22-inch rainbows and 24-inch browns is the fact that by Nebraska law, all non-navigable rivers are in fact 100% privately owned.  Furthermore, even if they were not, all access to the very-hidden Snake River is too also 100% privately owned.  So enjoyment of this tremendous blue ribbon trout stream is highly exclusive! The Snake River Conservation Group is a members-only fishing club that offers access to the Snake River for trout fishing. The Pines Reserve lots overlook a portion of the Snake River that is owned by the Snake River Conservation Group, and very reasonable membership dues are all that are required in order to walk out your back door and hike to the river with your gear... not to mention the usage also of their entire 6 miles of the Snake as well!

The Niobrara

Protected as a national scenic river, the picturesque Niobrara offers wonderful float trips on canoes through miles of it via multiple local outfitters. As well, the private land along it holds high quality big game, and several outfitters and guides offer opportunities to experience it.

Merritt Reservoir

Merritt Reservoir is the fastest replenishing water source in the world!  Though rainfall adds to it, it is really a product of the incredible hydrology of the seemingly otherwise dry and windswept Sandhills.  Springs are vibrant and constant! Created by damming the Snake River in 1964, this 2,905 acre lake holds multiple fish species including alewife, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, walleye, northern pike, crappie, bluegill, and even the sought after game “fish of 10,000 casts”; the muskellunge.  It is considered the best public fishing opportunity in Nebraska.  As a large deep lake, it also offers the general summer fun associated with white sand beaches, boating, and other activities.

The Sandhills

The Sandhills of Nebraska is one of the amazing topographical wonders to the nature loving.  And Cherry County is perhaps the best example of it. Vast is an understatement! And its rolling hills can be overwhelming, instantly making its visitors feel they are as far from humanity as is currently possible.  To walk it for the first time, one can pretend he or she might be in the Scottish moors or even parts of the Kalahari... maybe.  But soon it’s uniqueness presents itself and a love affair can begin for this inspiring combination of sandy soil, Big Bluestem, Dakota Switch, and Yellow Indian grasses, coneflowers, and Purple Prairie Clover. And it is absolutely teaming with wildlife!  Game species include, mule deer, white-tailed deer, antelope, sharptail grouse, pheasants, ducks, and geese.  Shorebirds, bobcats, raptors, and other various other birds and mammals make up this outstanding ecosystem.

Conclusion

The Pines Reserve is a very limited offering of lots that provide amazing views of breath taking western sunsets that settle behind the spectacular Snake River Canyon. Surrounded by committed preservation of land integrity no more exclusive and private settings to build could be found in the state of Nebraska, and likely not in many others of the lower 48.
