In 1815 Northampton Plantation consisted of roughly 1,150 acres located along the historic plantation row on the northern bluff of the Sampit River. Northampton Plantation was divided into four parcels in 1989 at the request of John B. Grant's heirs. This parcel is a portion of Northampton Plantation tract 3. The property has a rich history and was once owned by Mr. Francis Withers who also owned other well-known plantations such as Friendfield, Silver Hill, and Midway during the height of the rice industry. It contains roughly 75 acres of historic rice fields where you can still see the hand-dug canals that once controlled water from the Sampit River and grew Carolina Gold rice which was known around the world. The property also played a role in the fight for our nation's independence as artifices have been found that indicate the presence of Revolutionary and Civil War soldiers that once roamed the area.
