The Moon Creek Ranch has been owned by the same family for over 100 years. This truly is a legacy property that offers a unique opportunity to own an entire canyon and watershed. Rarely do ranches that have been held in one family for this long become available. The ranch consists of over 4400 acres of pasture and timber ground. Moon Creek Ranch is directly adjacent to the Malheur Nat'l Forest and thousands of acres of BLM as well. Moon Creek itself is the "crown jewel" of the ranch. It runs the full length of the ranch (5 miles!) year round, and provides water and habitat for livestock, fish and wildlife alike. The big game hunting is incredible as the ranch sits in the highly coveted Murders Creek hunting unit. The property qualifies for 3 LOP tags for elk, 3 LOP tags for deer, plus a variety of other opportunities for private land cow elk hunts. Archery season is extra special at Moon Creek as big bulls bugle up and down the canyon. The dark north slope timber pockets hold lots of elk.......especially in the late summer and fall. The ranch has Whitetail and Mule deer, Bighorn Sheep, Mountain Goats, Elk, Cougars, Turkeys, Bobcats and Black bears. It is not unusual to see 4 or 5 of these species on every trip up the canyon. The timber on the ranch is truly impressive. It hasn't been logged for many years and their are big mature stands of Douglas Fir and Ponderosa Pine along with Western Larch (tamarack). The ground is steep in many areas, but the terrain provides ample opportunity to glass across the canyon to locate your trophy animal and plan the hunt. The ranch offers 3440 acres of deeded land, with 122 acres of water rights along with a 1011 acre BLM grazing allotment that supports 198 AUM's. The ranch's irrigated ground includes native meadows and alfalfa fields. All water is FREE and is flood irrigated. No pumping costs of any kind. Midway up the canyon is what is called "The Garden". This unique spot includes a small, modern hunting cabin with nice amenities and a small alfalfa field in front of it. A truly great spot to set up base camp! There is an older ranch home at the bottom end of the ranch, close to Hwy. 26. The ranch is very simple to operate as it has no high maintenance improvements and minimal buildings. There is a nice hay barn, a good set of corrals and good roads that require very little maintenance. The ranch has low property taxes, low power bills and complete control of all access in and out of the property. This is a must see if you are looking for a ranch that offers cattle ranching, hunting and recreation all in one parcel.
