This part of the river is a tailwater fishery that fishes like a giant spring creek. It is famed for the numbers and size of trout and its prolific hatches. The Missouri is a 12-month fishery. Anglers will find baetis and caddis in the spring, PMDs, tricos and grasshoppers in the summer, blue-winged olives and streamers in the fall, winter midges, and there is consistent nymphing throughout the year.
The Missouri River Fishing Cabin straddles Dog Creek, which originates on Coburn Mountain, a few miles northwest. The creek crosses the northern part of the property where it joins the Missouri. Prickly Pear Creek is a rich fishery, which flows through Wolf Creek, south of the property, and is quiet refuge often holding 18 brown trout in a stream not more than 10 feet wide. Drive almost any direction from the property and upland bird hunters will find opportunities to chase pheasant, Hungarian partridge, Sharptail grouse, as well as Blue and Ruffed grouse in the area mountains. The well-known Montana bird areas of Choteau and Fairfield are less than one hour to the north, and Lewistown is an easy drive to the East.
Elk, deer, black bear, moose, Bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goat and mountain lion can all be found in nearby mountains and forests. These game animals require a specific tag from Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks to harvest. The Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Rocky Mountain Front are particularly solid places in the nation to find protected animals such as Grizzly bears, lynx, wolverines and wolves.
