The whitetails at Leavellwood where derived from the abundant amount of knowledge, experience, blood-sweat and tears. Original stocking in 2004 was from a foundation buck, from northern genetics, Black Jack and over the years additional northern genetics from the likes of Maxbo, Rolex and Awesome were introduced to the heard. Also several Texas genetics from 727, Gladiator and others were introduced to the heard to improve the hybrid-vigor. The genetics are one thing that makes the deer at Leavellwood so big, however their diverse habitat combined with the rich and fertile Black Belt soils makes it all work. There are acres of perennials consisting of Clover and other legumes at 38-40% protein. Combined with supplemental feeding these deer have all they could ever want as far as nutrition. There are numerous food plots with Dixie Deer shooting houses strategically placed so that your guest or family members can enjoy the hunt in comfort and have the hunt of a lifetime! There are several lakes on Leavellwood which are Leavellwood Lake built in 1997; Sawgrass Lake built in 2010; Sleepy Hollow Lake built in 2004, Fantasy Island Lake built in 2001, and House Lake built in 1986. The lakes were designed with a custom layout that sprouted from Mr. Trey Montgomery's years of professional experience in the production and catfish management and recreational bass lake management and construction. The clean-cut shoreline is designed at a 30-degree shoreline grade to a minimum depth of 4/ft to keep down undesirable vegetation and strategically placed under water ridges and fish structure to create the ideal bass habitat. Aeration pumps are installed to control thermal stratification of oxygen levels. The lakes are stocked with trophy Florida, Northern and F-1 Tiger Bass. In addition, there are multiple fish feeders and bait fish raised in production ponds consisting of bluegill bream and other bait fish for bass forage. All of the trophy bass lakes have concrete boat ramps for unloading and boat houses for docking and recharging your boat. All fishing is done on a catch and release program to maintain a maximum population of trophy bass with a lake record of bass that weighed in at over 15 lbs.!!! Leavellwood has been featured both locally and nationally in magazine articles, newspapers and over 40 television shows ranging from Mossy Oak Outdoors, ESPN, the Outdoor Channel and more. In 2017, Bassmaster's Magazine named Leavellwood one of the top ten pay fishing destinations in the United States. It was awarded Treasure Forest and selected Farm of Distinction in 2018 by Alabama Farmer's Federation. Over the years, through trial and error and learned experience, Leavellwood has developed a program that refused to compromise and has achieved what Leavellwood is known for today.
