The LA SAL Blue Mountains Ranch attracts Elk seeking water and food sources, and will stay on the property year-round with the herd size increasing during the migration in fall and early winter. The ranch is located in the San Juan Elk unit, which is a Limited Entry draw unit, but the ranch qualifies for the Landowner Draw tags (applications are due end of March, *Contact Agent for more information). There are Elk ranging in size from spike bulls to high-end mature class bulls.

The open meadows and dense tree coverage on the flat and rolling hills, along with scattered seasonal stock ponds, provide great habitat for the Elk. Being adjacent to a canyon rim property provides fields for migrating herds in and out of the canyons where the Elk bed.

MULE DEER

The area is known for some great Mule Deer bucks. Mature bucks will appear on the property more frequently as the rut intensifies during November. The rolling terrain with open meadows surrounded by trees makes for ideal rifle hunting situations. The ranch qualifies for Landowner Mule Deer Tags (2+/-), with general Mule Deer tags drawn with minimal preference points (0-2).
