The proven genetics, high protein-base native forage, existing supplemental feed program, planted food plots, water sources, balanced cover, and large neighboring ranches allow greater odds for a significantly mature buck population. The typical score for native whitetail bucks over the past several years averages between 140 and 180 gross. The property is outfitted with nine deer blinds, corn feeders, and six protein feeders. Supplementing the native food sources, four fenced and cultivated fields are planted in winter wheat to support the wildlife and rotate as feed for cattle in the winter. In addition to the wheat, one field is dedicated to a significant crop of native sunflowers intended for annual dove hunting.
One of the most outstanding features of this ranch is the significant size of neighboring ranches and proximity to Albany, Abilene, and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. There are many excellent properties in Shackelford County, and this one ranks at the top in all aspects, locally and regionally.
