Have trophy whitetail deer, thundering tom turkeys, and great waterfowl hunting on your mind? This spring fed, heavily wooded tract is a sportsman’s paradise and is unlike anything you’ll find in Northwest Kansas. Upon entering the gated entrance from the county road on the north end of the property, you will find level, fertile cropland along the spring-fed creek running along the East border of the property. An all-weather private access road allows you to travel the full mile from North to the South through the property in all weather conditions. Hidden away in the heart of this property is nearly 360 acres of impeccable hunting habitat that cannot be properly depicted by any aerial map. This portion of the property has nearly every element required to hold, attract, and successfully harvest trophy whitetail deer and turkeys in this part of Kansas. A beautiful 6-acre spring fed pond provides great fishing, waterfowl hunting, and a reliable year-round water source for the wildlife. The backside of the pond dam is uniquely characterized by an enormous fresh water spring that provides enough water to flow the entire distance of the creek bottom running through this property, which eventually connects into the South Fork of the Solomon River a mile to the North. The area surrounding the pond dam features several acres of booming cottonwood trees, tall cedars, thick brush and thickets, and major elevation changes that create perfect pockets for whitetail bedding areas and natural travel corridors. Deer trails crisscross everywhere throughout the timber with large deeply scarred scrapes under every low hanging limb. This part of the property should serve as a major sanctuary for mature whitetail bucks when receiving pressure from more high activity farm properties throughout the surrounding area. Encompassed within the timber North of the pond is a nearly 8-acre crop field that inevitably serves as a major food plot for wildlife. Currently planted to triticale, this field has deer tracks all over, and recent trail cam photos have proven a high number of whitetail deer feed in this portion of the property every morning and evening. Easy access to potential hunting setups and many options for stand sites for all wind directions around this crop field make this a no-brainer hunting plot to be planted to the food plot variety of your choice. The wooded area lining the West side of the access road is loaded with excellent cover. A wide variety of trees (elms, cedars, locusts, and tamaracks to name a few) are thick in this area of the property that lies below the cedar-lined canyons above in the far Western portion of the land. Heavily traveled deer trails are pounded into the ground, and several trees throughout this wooded area are torn to shreds from mature whitetail bucks who are primed up in the Fall months. The 160 acres within the far SW portion of this land are easy to overlook on an aerial map – but don’t be deceived. The peak of this area of “pasture” land falls off into timbered draws running in different directions that eventually feed down to the tillable crop fields below. In this area, these draws and canyons are where the deer live the majority of the year – secluded from any human intrusion. A few very nice shed antlers were discovered within this quarter section of the property upon my first visit, and there was tons of fresh deer sign throughout. This property has EVERYTHING deer hunters’ love about hunting Northwest Kansas. Heavily wooded riparian areas along the spring-fed creek and large pond, fertile cropland providing excellent food sources for wildlife as well as a quality return on investment, and timbered draws combined with excellent lowland cover serve as prime bedding areas for a high capacity of deer. Properties of this size and quality are very difficult to come by in this area which is rich with trophy whitetail genetics. You have to see this property in person to believe it!
