Parke County is big buck country, and this property is no exception! This land is predominately wooded with a clearing up front that is an ideal location for a homesite, cabin or a place to set up basecamp. Directly east of the property are destination food sources and Big Racoon Creek. The pattern of deer movement is easy to see with heavy trails going to and from the fields to the east. A couple miles to the west are the Wabash River bottoms with additional food. This property is an ideal funnel for deer movement between two major waterways in a neighborhood surrounded by agricultural fields. A quick view of the aerial shows this area is a corridor for natural deer movement. The property offers a diversity of habitat with conifers in the NE, hardwoods on the ridgetops, and ravines with interspersed pockets of early successional growth providing bedding and food for wildlife. The diversity of cover and the well-established trail system provide a good amount of transition and edge cover where the deer like to travel. The topography varies and further aids in funneling deer movement, and the ridgetops provide a place for turkey to strut in the spring. These woods are heavily used during the rut, as evidenced by the many scrapes and rubs scattered throughout, and the trail camera photos confirm this property is the stomping grounds for numerous bucks. Parke County is one of the top counties in Indiana for producing Boone and Crockett caliber deer and is well known for its beautiful fall foliage and covered bridges.
