Veteran elk hunters have long known that the pinon/juniper and Ponderosa pine forests of west-central New Mexico harbor some of the largest bull elk on the planet, and generations of these magnificent animals have made a habit of hiding out on several expansive private ranches north of the hamlet of Pie Town. Encompassing over 12 square miles of trophy elk habitat, Coyote Ranch is one of these secret elk hideaways, where privacy and huge bulls are everyday occurrences.
Located at the base of the rugged Sawtooth Mountains, the Coyote Ranch is a beautifully-blocked, 8160-acre ranch full of pinon/juniper woods and grasslands located at an elevation of about 7000 feet. Watered with several wells and tanks, the ranch is home to trophy elk and mule deer that make even the most jaded big game hunters sit up and take notice. The ranch is entirely within Game Management Unit 13, which has an impressive track record of yielding 370 to 400+ inch bull elk.
On the Coyote Ranch, elk may be hunted with primitive weapons, and the ranch's impressive mule deer in the 200-inch class are open to regular rifle hunting. The ranch receives 10 landowner elk tags annually and deer tags can be purchased over the counter.
In addition to deer and elk, mountain lion, black bear and turkey also roam the ranch. Although expansive in its own right, Coyote Ranch shares its southern boundary with the Cibola National Forest, permitting even more hunting territory.
Big game hunting aside, the Coyote Ranch is also a Southwestern retreat of the finest order. This is unchanged New Mexico at its best, with inspiring views of the rugged Sawtooth Mountains rising over forested foothills and plains. Rolling terrain on the ranch invites exploration by jeep, foot or horseback twelve months of the year. Improvements on the ranch are limited to an existing mobile home and storage building, but with excellent year-round access and power and telephone already on the property, it doesn't take much imagination to visualize a spectacular home or lodge as the centerpiece of the Coyote Ranch.
We at Harrigan Land Company believe that the Coyote Ranch is a remarkable buy for the hunter who craves privacy as much as he or she craves trophy elk and deer. Where New Mexico is still wild and where elk and deer far outnumber humans, Coyote Ranch awaits your discovery and your dreams.
