The village of Boaz is well-recognized for massive behemoths both past and present. Back on July 10, 1897, a discovery of one of the biggest bones ever found in Wisconsin it wasnt a shed antler either. While checking for flood damage along Mill Creek, the sons (Harry, Chris, Verne, Clyde) of farmer John Dosch unearthed some unusual bones sticking out of the creek bank that partially washed away including what was described as an arrowhead found in clay near a rib. The family began excavating the bones and displayed them by a hitching post near the road where a local mailman began to spread the word of these humongous spectacles. What they found was something most unimaginable. As word spread like wildfire throughout the small farming community, a Richland Center Attorney and member of the state legislature negotiated the sale of these unique bones for fifty dollars that were stored in the basement of the familys farmhouse. The bones were revealed as the remnants of a mastodon and is one of the most recent ever found, and dated to 12,220+/- 190 calendar years BP.
The history rooted in exquisite beauty is what makes this area so prominent. Trout streams wind along the bottom bases of gigantic bluffs systems decorated in rolling hardwood ridges spotlighted by fertile ag land tops. What I am describing is not only this coveted region, but also this particular estate. See for yourself as you ride up the numerous trail systems negotiating the rolling terrain. Here, youll find massive rock-outcroppings, awe-inspiring ridge points and a splattering of wildlife within. Let me explain.
This property features 5-unique ridge points that are suited for impressive deer bedding hideaways. Youll find 3-steep draws within the composition of the lands layout that afford picture-perfect pinch-points for hunting the rut. In addition, theres a heavenly open field that is row-cropped composed of 13+/- acres generating $1,000+/- annually. The top secluded field is a magnet for wildlife. Its not uncommon to lose count of deer and turkey milling about. Multiple treestand setups are in place for leveraging different wind directions. The NW corner is home to a half acre hidden field that resides as a homerun food plot with a water hole. A hidden staging area like this is a consistent producer for when the big boys get on their feet during daylight hours.
What makes this property so dynamic is the sprawling ridgetop that extends to large bordering private landowners. Theres a multitude of thick bedding areas mixed with open oak flats. A pleasant diversity of dense and open forested ground affords both beauty and cover. From the top ridge, you can overlook miles of some of the most picturesque views that the Driftless Region offers. The area is also known as superior morel mushroom country.
