Broken Arrow North Ranch is a hidden gem in the Texas Hill country. Located just south of Interstate 10 in Kerr and Kimble counties, about 2 miles (as a deer walks) from the Historic Y.O. Ranch, Broken Arrow North is a classic Texas hill country hunting ranch. Regular hunting guests included NASCAR drivers pursuing the abundant free-ranging exotic and native game, and fish in the beautiful 3.5 acre lake. Typical for the western hill country, the dominate tree species include live oak, red oak, cedar elm, ashe juniper and some mesquite. Other large hardwood species are found along the creeks and draws providing a diversity of habitat and lovely fall colors. The current owner managed the cedar primarily by hand cutting throughout the center portions ranch. In areas with fewer oaks, the cedar was left for cover. Primary shrubs and browse plants include agarita and Texas persimmon. There are five large fields with good soil that have been used as food plots to attract more game. Getting around the ranch is easy with approximately 10 miles of good interior roads. The private lake is rare for the area and complements the arid climate of the western hill country.
Topography
The interior of the ranch is mostly flat, allowing for easy navigation and good sight lines for hunting. Elevation averages approximately 2,000 above sea level, with the highest point being about 2150. The bluffs above Mudge Draw provide great views of the ranch. Overall this ranch less rugged than most in the area.
Water
The 3.5 acre Bullhead Lake located at headquarters provides excellent fishing and waterfowl opportunities. The clear water is approximately 20 deep at the dam with nearly 1.5 acres of shallower water around the island for spawning and waterfowl. Mudge Draw winds through the ranch for approximately 2 miles and provides wet weather drainage. Two small ponds which are fed by well and windmill provide additional water to wildlife. Two water wells and two windmills provide water to the lake and water troughs throughout the ranch.
Wildlife
Free ranging exotic and native wildlife species are plentiful at Broken Arrow North. Axis deer, Aoudad, Blackbuck, Fallow deer, Sika deer, White-tailed deer and Rio Grande turkey are regularly observed by hunters. Bison, Oryx, Mouflon sheep and other super-exotics have been harvested on the ranch. Migratory game birds include Mourning dove and various waterfowl species.
