Blacanocca Farms is a premier waterfowl and trophy deer property located approximately 7 miles southwest of the Parkin Exit (Exit 256) of I-40 in St. Francis County, Arkansas. Only a short 35 minute drive from Memphis, the property consists of approximately 1,177 contiguous acres of mixed 14 year old hardwoods and moist soil units (with well managed moist soil seed banks), bayous and prairie grass projects that provide proven waterfowl hunting, trophy deer hunting, and other small game hunting (rabbit, quail, and doves). Blacanocca Farms forms the entire north and east borders of the Round Pond Unit of the Wapanocca National Wildlife Refuge. The property is located in a well-known waterfowl area amongst several well-known hunting clubs. Situated just over 2 miles southwest of Blackfish, about 2 miles west of Section 12 and about 1 mile north of RazorQuack, among others. Approximately 1171 acres were enrolled in the federal Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) in 2005, consisting of 16 moist soil units and 19 food plots. Of the 1,177 acres, approximately 402 acres are water at full pool, of which 185 acres have dedicated wells that enable flooding on demand. There is a gated house site inside Spencer Bayou that is not enrolled in WRP and is situated on the highest point on the farm.
The property boasts a proven harvest record for waterfowl and it has been consistently good through the years. There are 30 duck holes and 9 duck blinds on the property, including 4 pits (or groups of one-man pits) and 5 above surface blinds that accommodate approximately 3-5 hunters in each blind.
Trophy Deer Hunting: Situated in Arkansas Game & Fish Commission Deer Zone 4A, the property has been managed for deer, following many DMAP guidelines as well as allowing non-mature bucks to walk, creating conditions that enable trophy buck hunting. The deer have superior genetics, as evidenced by the following trophy deer taken on the property:
12 point Buck scoring approximately 192 3/8 (Pope & Young) which won the Big Buck Classic Archery for the State of Arkansas in 2017.
10 point Buck scoring 175 1/4 (Boone & Crockett) which won the Big Buck Classic Muzzleloader for the State of Arkansas in 2019.
Overall, there have been fourteen (14) bucks scoring greater than 150 (Boone & Crockett) that have been taken in the past 10 years on Blacanocca Farms.
Other Small Game: The property also provides good hunting for doves, rabbits and quail. The dove field has been successfully hunted that last 7 years. There is an abundance of both cotton tail and swamp rabbits and rabbit hunts have been held the past few years on the property. There are at least 8 known coveys of quail on the property that have been hunted only once in the past 5 years.
Improvements: The following improvements have been made by the ownership since 2005:
2 electric wells that enable flooding of approximately 185 acres.
14 pipes with flashboard risers including 7 full round riser boxes to enable flooding and control water on the 402 floodable acres.
