The shoreline features some Great Lakes Maritime History. The Bon Voyage, a passenger steamer built in 1891, which originally ran between Chicago and Saugatuck, and was brought to Lake Superior in 1900. The 30' x 153' vessel carried passengers and supplies between Duluth and the Copper Country. On May 10, 1901 a fire broke out on board . Not able to launch the life boats or life rafts, the Captain decided to beach the craft. The crew and passengers escaped, except for four members of a Laurium family that were drowned in their attempt to get to shore. Today the 127 year old skeletal remains of this beautiful ship lies embedded in the beach sand of this property.
