This protected designated nature area lies between Point Isabelle along the Gay-Lac La Belle Road to Bete Grise. The Northern half of the beach is easily accessible by paved road. The Southern half of the beach, Bete Grise South, is most easily reached by boat and is part of a designated wildlife refuge. The Beach is bisected by the Mendota boat channel. Fishing is fantastic in Lac La Belle, for Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Northern Pike, Walleye, Musky and Perch, or you can take the short trip through the channel to Lake Superior for Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout, Lake Trout. From Lac La Belle you can head to Mt. Bohemia Ski Hill, which offers 900 feet of vertical snowboarding, and “extreme” skiing on trails that are almost all triple black diamonds. The resort gets between 250 and 300 inches of snow a year and is serviced by two chairlifts. Being developed by the same owners, Voodoo Mountain has four peaks, for skiing and Snowcat Skiing experience without having to fly out west. If you take the highway northward about 15 miles, you will find Copper Harbor, Copper Harbor's IMBA "Silver Level Ride Center" ATV Biking and Hiking Trails that feature trails suitable for riders of all abilities, Brockway Mountain, MountHoughton, Bare Bluff Sanctuary, Montreal Falls, and the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge Golf Course.
