This 72-acre property, quietly conceived alongside the Neenah Creek, tells many tales both ancient and sacred. Flying alongside the Neenah Creek is a Bird Effigy measuring 70 feet from wingtip to wingtip; 43 feet from the top of the head to the tip of its tail; with a mound height of 2 feet high. This Bird Effigy, c. 200B.C.- 1200 A.D., remains in relatively excellent condition; continuing its watch, guiding all who seek its wisdom and messages from the spirit world. The second effigy, Bear Effigy, is a low bear's form mound. Sacred as well, the bear is an emblem of strength, power, protection, healing and wisdom. Native Americans also view the bear as a guardian and protector. Though time has worn down Bear Effigy, his spirit still stands guard over Oval Mound, which measures 8 feet by 11 feet, rising 1 feet in height. A Linear Rock Formation, set back further to the propertys edge, makes its own cultural statement through carefully stacked stone of various colors, shapes and types of rock.

If archeological significance were not enough, the property boasts fantastic period-built homes and buildings c. 1870s- 1930. Serving as a cultural bastion, Bonnie Oaks developed a reputation as a place for relaxation and inspiration; helping many prominent writers and musicians achieve fame locally and nationally.

Fifteen historic structures settle themselves upon this property. They are: Main House, Log House, The Tower, Carpenters Shop, Original Barn, Ormsby Barn, Wood Shed, Machine Shed, Boat House, Chicken Coop, Milking Shed, Pump House, Outhouse, Bath House and Corn Crib.

At its origin, The Bonnie Oaks Historic District was a homestead maintained as a summer residence. It was in ownership for 125 years by the Atwood, Ormsby and Green families. Pines, hardwoods and a lengthy, and hardy grape arbor encompass this peaceful estate.

With great effort and toil, the Green family has painstakingly revived several of the period homes and structures historical spirit.
