This property is the premiere water fowl and pheasant hunting in Harney County. In 1998, 541.29 acres was placed in the Wetlands Reserve Program. Over the next several years there was a plan instrumented to enhance all wildlife in the area. The plan established four separate units of which there is water control canals developing extensive wetlands with an island and brood strips for pheasants. Other developments include five gravel levees which are desired to let water flow easily from the Malheur
Lake to the property. There was also development of upland areas and water control structures. These water control devices help control all water from the Blitzen River and the irrigation well.
The Wetland Project was such a success that it won the State Land Boards Wetland Project Award for all of Oregon in 2004.
