The 6,400 acre Antelope Springs Ranch is the historic headquarters of the famous Mitchell Ranch that once spanned 400 sections of the Marfa Grassland. Located 13 miles southeast of Marfa on the Nopal Road (6 miles east from Marfa on US 90 and south 7 miles on the Nopal county maintained road) it is well positioned for privacy as well as convenience to Alpine, Marfa, and the rest of the Big Bend Region. The Mysterious Marfa Lights can be seen from the ranch and is only 9 miles south of the new visitor center built on Highway 90.

This working cattle ranch is all about water with the Headquarters being located at a historic natural Cienega with large Cottonwood Trees, rich native grasses, and rolling hills. This was a stop on the Chihuahuan Trail and the name of the ranch was based on the huge herds of Antelope that once watered there. Antelope Springs Ranch ranges in elevation from 4,650 feet to 4,750 feet and has incredible views of Area Mountains including the Davis, Chinati, Cienega, Cathedral, and Elephant Mountains. This is as clean a ranch that you are going to find in the region with excellent fences, gates, barns, corrals, improvements, wells, troughs, roads etc. Antelope Draw and Joe Williams Draw run westerly and southwesterly through the ranch which creates a very nice rolling landscape.
Wildlife and Habitat
This ranch lies in the heart of the Marfa Grasslands with excellent Pronghorn, Blue Quail and Dove hunting. There are many non-game grassland birds as well as other songbirds and neo-tropical migrants such as a wide diversity of humming birds. The various large trees located at the headquarters are excellent habitat for birds and provide shade for many desert animals. Grasses include Cane Bluestem, Sideoats Grama, Blue Grama, Black Grama, Alkali Sacaton, and other Marfa Grassland species. There is a nice mix of brush on some locations of the ranch providing great habitat for a variety of desert animals.
Improvements
The improvements are all good to excellent condition.
The main adobe dwelling is surrounded by large trees and manicured yard and has been completely remodeled inside. It has three bedrooms, two baths with excellent outdoor shaded porch, beautiful mature landscaping and a nearby cook barn with picnic tables and built in smoker and BBQ.
