Its current state is almost the same as it was when it was formed thousands of years ago. Explore the 2-mile trail along the fissures bottom for an exciting and unique hike. Fort Rock State Park is another nearby attraction where you can see remnants of a volcano that once rose from the valley floor. It towers 325 feet above the ground and is about half a mile wide. Christmas Valley Sand Dunes is located just 15 miles from this property. The Sand Dunes include 11,000 acres of dunes for off-highway vehicle use. The area consists of medium-sized dunes and sand bowls. The dunes are made mostly of ash and pumice that blew into the region 7,000 years ago when Mt. Mazama erupted forming Crater Lake.
