IMPROVEMENTS: There are 9 bungalows on the land and their names express the feel of The Oasis. They are the Hibiscus, Kits Bungalow, Lanai House, Aloha Cottage, Harriet's House, The Gates House, the Maui Suite , Lotus Suite and Cherry Blossom. The centerpiece of the Oasis is the Conservatory, a massive three-story Victorian wrought-iron greenhouse. This incredible structure will lead you to believe you have just left Texas for the South Pacific. Nestled inside the Conservatory is a petite pool which is surrounded by greenery and a lush tropical environment in the huge greenhouse. There are three other large greenhouses that house orchids and various tropical plants. There is also an unfinished main house on the property that has good bones and if completed would add greatly to The Oasis experience.
HISTORY: The original development of The Oasis grounds and buildings was the work of Hazel Gates Woodruff, a wealthy heir to the Gates Tire and Rubber Company of Colorado. She was an accomplished and avid gardener and dog breeder and moved to Cat Spring to build her dream compound. From actual receipts, it has been documented that Kit, as she was known to her friends, had spent well over three million dollars on the unusual improvements before she passed away prior to finishing the main lodge. However, the greenhouses, the gardens, the conservatory and the guest houses were all built by her with great attention to detail and considerable expense. The current owner converted some of the buildings to guest quarters and added significantly to the value and desirability of the improvements.
EXTRA BENEFITS: The new owners of the Oasis can receive the benefits of use of the nearby Blisswood Bed and Breakfast. Reservations must be made and fees paid just as a guest of the wonderful facility.
