Riverside Hot Springs
This is a 480 acre piece of property located approximately 30 miles east of Crane, Oregon in the Oregon High Desert. The South Fork of the Malheur River runs through it. It has hot springs that keep one of the ponds somewhat ice free during the winter. The pond may have ice but it will not freeze completely. I have seen it freeze about 75% but it has always had ice-free areas for the birds to come to. The hot springs have a large amount of hot water coming into the property. The water cools down as it comes in so it is not too hot to touch. One of the ponds will have water all year. The other ones may or may not have water in the winter depending on the year. There are fish in the one pond and can be planted again. Ducks and geese come into the main pond especially if it is frozen in other areas. In the early season you will see indigenous waterfowl using the ponds. Also, the migratory waterfowl can be seen and hunted on the South Fork of the Malheur River that runs through the property. There are pheasants and chukars also on this piece but not in great abundance. You could establish more habitat and create a friendlier place for these upland birds with a little work. The river has fish in it and always has water even in the summer with irrigation use. This 480 is in Malheur County and is serviced by a graveled county road. The neighbors are large landowners that run cattle and put up hay. The grasses on the piece are crested wheat and bunchgrass. Sagebrush is also found here. The summers will be warm with lots of sun. Winters will be cool also with a lot of sun. Usually there will be very little snowfall here but you will see it occasionally. You can access the property from either Juntura or Crane. There is a county road that comes in from either way.
There are about 70 acres of irrigated cropland on this piece that can be irrigated out of the ponds. Four wells are also on the property. The owner has filed for water rights on those. If those are completed they will add to the irrigated acres and the longevity of the season.
This land would be excellent to take hay off of and then hold back until winter. Winter grazing for cattle would then be used with a little protein supplement for cattle. The mature grass would be there and the South Fork of the Malheur would supply the running water.
The hot springs are not on the property but the property has the water rights to them. There are quite a few gallons coming out of the springs and it is quite hot.
There is another 160 acres of BLM fenced in with the land. It is in crested wheat and bunchgrass also.
This piece is an excellent grazing piece and a super hunting piece for waterfowl. The pond in the winter is just terrific depending on weather. Access to it is very good. Elevation: 3428
Price: $750,000
