The Wise River Ranch is 478 acres nestled between the cottonwood-lined Wise River corridor to the west and the Beaverhead National Forest to the east. Wise River courses through the Ranch for about one and a half miles, and then travels another half mile before its confluence with the Big Hole River. The Wise River Ranch is jointly owned by the Allen and Lovell Families and they placed 425 acres of the Ranch into a conservation easement with the Montana Land Reliance (MLR) in 2000. Both of the homes are located in the upper meadow of the Ranch and were strategically planned to provide privacy and uninterrupted views of the valley. Usage of the shared acreage is guided by the MLR Easement Agreement which allows for continued agricultural and recreational uses. The balance of the acreage is a 53 parcel on the northwest portion of the ranch that borders the town of Wise River and is not included in the MLR conservation easement.
The Allens two-story hand-hewn log home is situated in the upper meadow to capture views of the mountain vistas and abundant wildlife. Thoughtfully designed, the 3,800 SF home has ample room to accommodate family and friends. The wrap-around deck provides an idyllic setting to unwind as you reminiscence about the adventures of the day.
Just steps from the home are miles of hiking trails, a life time of fly fishing and big-game hunting for elk and deer. An ultimate day of angling is easily fulfilled by wading the private stretch of Wise River on the Ranch followed by an afternoon floating the Big Hole located just ten minutes from the Ranch. The world-renowned Big Hole River, one of the few free-flowing rivers remaining in the West is a major tributary in the Missouri River headwaters. In addition to the Wise and Big Hole Rivers, there are six world-class rivers within two hours of the Ranch. Anglers will enjoy the opportunity to fish for the abundant rainbow, brown, cutthroat and brook trout, while also having the chance to catch the rare fluvial grayling which still inhabit the clear cool waters of the upper Big Hole and Wise River.
Elk, deer, moose, fox, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes and bear traverse the Ranch which backs up to over two million acres of the Beaverhead National Forest. The abundant hiking trails throughout the Ranch and the neighboring National Forest provide hours or days of adventure. Horse, ATV and snowmobile trails are accessible directly from the home and afford access to ghost towns, abandoned gold mines, high mountain lakes and Indian trails.
