The Pilot Knob Quarter Horse Farm is one of the finest equestrian facilities in northwest North Carolina. It is currently being used as a breeding facility but could easily be adapted for other equestrian uses. The major elements of the facility are a 100 x 140 foot 14 stall barn with a 60 x 60 indoor arena, a 36 x 110 foot mare motel, 47.87 rolling acres in pasture fenced with 7000 feet of Pipe & Cable fencing, a 65 x 110 outdoor arena, and a 1244 Square foot Log Home overlooking the farm. The barn (100 x 140) has 14 stalls. The 2 foaling stalls are 15 x 20; the 8 stallion stalls are 12 x 16 and have big windows and fans. There are also 4 12 x 12 stalls. The barn and all the stall walls are block with custom made steel doors and bars. All the stalls have poured concrete floors with drains and one-inch rubber mats The barn is well insulated and heated with gas. It’s very economical to keep at 55 degrees in the winter months. In addition to all the permanent stalls, there is a covered “open area” where an additional 12 portable stalls can be set up (or the area can be used for hay storage, etc.). The 60 x 60 indoor is part of the barn and features skylights and sawdust footing. The other barn amenities include an office/front porch, a lab, a tack room, a wash pit, a feed room, a stock, a guest half bath with washer/dryer & storage, and a very attractive “barn studio apartment” .The apartment is fully equipped with a full bath, kitchen, and central heat & air. The Mare Motel is a covered 36 x 110 foot building and has 20 stalls 12 x 24 foot in size. This facility was designed to keep manual labor to a minimum. A 763 Bobcat does most of the work because of the oversized stall doors and aisle width. The “outdoor”, 110 x 65, has sand footing and Pipe & Cable fencing. ALL the Pipe & Cable painted fencing on the farm is five feet in height, 2 ½ pipe, 4-strand cables with the posts set in concrete. The Round Pen is 40 feet in diameter and is under a 40 x 60 cover. The walls of the Pen are high to allow undistracted training. More features include a grain bin- bulk feed hopper, lights on commercial timers, a 4-horse “hot walker”, and automatic water to three pastures. Overlooking this incredible equine facility is a 2001 built 1244 square foot log home with a private entrance off the paved road. The main level has the living room, kitchen, master bedroom and full bath, and two covered porches, plus a large deck overlooking the farm. The loft is used as a second bedroom and has a full bath. Features in the house include hardwood floors, stainless appliances, a wood-burning stove, interior log or tongue-in-groove pine walls. The window on the south side soars all the way up to the vaulted ceiling. See Visual tours of the property and the home.
