Located on the banks of the Coosa River, this tract offers a lot of opportunity to those who like both deer hunting, duck hunting, fishing and as a bonus, a significant timber investment. There are over 4000’ of frontage on the Coosa River. This remote stretch of the river is undeveloped and very beautiful! Its not uncommon to catch largemouth bass, catfish and 20lb. plus striped bass. The bank rises up from the river making a little “shelf” along the waters edge, which would make an excellent scenic trail and also several nice clearings for camping out. The mature hardwoods that line the entire stretch of the riverbank are tall and majestic, huge oaks, poplar, hickories. This portion of Etowah County was known for Native Americans that lived and hunted along the river and you can not help but wonder what life was like along this ridge, hundreds of years ago. There is an awesome cabin site on top of the high ridge bank, that is currently a food plot but a cabin sitting there would make for a gorgeous hunting camp overlooking the river. The timber consists of 100+/- AC of pine plantation that has been recently thinned with a 5th row thinning and cut back to a 70-90 basal area. The majority of the property is in mature hardwoods, with water oaks, white oaks and red oaks making up the majority of the species. There are other areas that are in mature pines and a small cutover thicket in early successional cover, very diverse! To the north of this property are hundreds of acres of crop fields that will be on a soybean/corn rotation providing great food for wildlife. The deer population seems to be very good trail cameras have indicated a lot of fawns and several nice bucks. An outstanding feature of the property is the duck hole. It is a natural swamp that is alongside Ballplay Creek. Ballplay creek runs through the western side of the property and meanders out of a huge swamp system called Ballplay Swamp. There are tons of natural aquatic weeds that are growing in this swamp that ducks and geese crave. With the convergence of Ballplay Creek and the Coosa River, it is no wonder why so many waterfowl use this swamp area. There is a good trail system, leading to the duck hole and throughout the property and to several small food plots. The property can be accessed from multiple directions making it possible to access stand locations easily and accommodate many hunters without disturbing each other. Some of the surrounding features of the general area are Weiss Lake, known for its incredible fishing and Little River Canyon, a picturesque gorge, this is a very scenic area of northeast Alabama. This is truly an incredible property, from upland hardwoods, pines, duck hole, river, trail system, secluded river frontage, it is an awesome one to consider if you are looking for a private sportsman’s dream property!
