Hard Bargain was so named over a century ago by two siblings negotiating to keep the house in a farm division. Hard Bargain dates to the late 19th century and is a rare, wonderful example of the “Stick Style” of architecture, a vivacious transitional style between the Gothic and the full flowering of Queen Anne. Weatherboard siding is accented with details reflecting the exuberance of the architecture and all is capped with a metal roof. Tall ceilings, heart pine floors, fireplaces in all rooms are but a few of the interior details. The Summer kitchen is still extant as well as an old hay barn and a new equipment shed.
