The lake view from the home will never change! This is a designated trout lake which is 230-Acres in size and has depths of up to 40-Feet. Fish species present include trout and walleyes. The lake was named for Lucy Frances Fitzhugh (Fannie) Hooe, the sister of Richardetta Hooe Ruggles, who was the wife of Maine native Lieutenant Daniel Ruggles, West Point graduate and Mexican War hero - who served at Fort Wilkins. The geological formations in this county are among the earth's oldest, and for thousands of years an ancient, unknown people mined the rich copper deposits here. The U.S. Government purchased the peninsula from the Chippewa (Ojibwa) in the Treaty of LaPointe in 1842. The government opened a Mineral Agency at Copper Harbor in 1843, and built Fort Wilkins the next year. By 1845 mining was in progress at Copper Harbor, Eagle River, and Eagle Harbor. By 1846 almost 1,000 mining permits had been issued. This early copper rush was over by 1847, and by the 1870s shipping "around the point" declined because of the opening of the Portage Lake Ship Canal further south between Houghton and Hancock. Today several of the former mining sites are popular tourist attractions. The property borders on US Highway 41, almost at its northern end. The southern end of this 2,000 mile highway is in Downtown Miami! A paved driveway slopes down into the property, goes to the garage, and then to the home. It is sheltered from Lake Superior winds and is complete with towering red and white pine. The forest floor has thimbleberries and blueberries to enjoy in July and August. The property offered for sale includes four surveyed lots and a Year-Round home overlooking the lake. The house was built into the natural hillside, and the 1056+ square foot home Main Floor plan includes a Living room, Dining area, Kitchen, three Bedrooms, and a Full Bath. Owners have installed beautiful new flooring in the living room and dining area. On the 1056 square foot Lower Level there is a fourth non-conforming Bedroom, Mechanical area, Laundry area, second Bathroom, and lots of storage! An elevated deck surrounds three sides ot the home. The lake side has an 11x30 poured concrete patio area below the deck, and at the rear of the house is the end of the asphalt driveway. The home is located on two of the four lots, so a sale of the two undeveloped lots may be considered by a future owner. There are mail delivery post boxes available in Copper Harbor, 1.5 miles away. There is Internet direct access to Pasty.Net. No cell phone coverage is available, but WIFI is available in the Village. Quaint shops, restaurants, and other services are also available there. If you would like to see this home and the most lovely setting in the Keweenaw, schedule your private tour today! Seller is offering a $5,000.00 rebate at closing for updates. MLS# 1106467
