The Cabin sits about 300 yards from the beach along Buck Creek, a crystal clear fresh water stream. The original part of the cabin has 2 bunk rooms and a living room. In 2005 the new 2 story addition was added creating an upstairs bedroom / viewing room and entry. The cabin has been wrapped in Galvanized tin on all sides to keep it dry and to keep the bears from chewing on it. The Cabin is built stout and has held up to severe winter storms for over 50 years. Travel to Herendeen Bay is by small plane or boat only. The hunting around Herendeen Bay is awesome, providing Huge Bears, Wolf, caribou, and big moose along with ptarmigan, ducks and geese. Moose and Caribou are closed to hunting in Herendeen Bay but they can be hunted on the Port Moller side a short distance away. Herendeen Bay has several big creeks that hold a decent run of chum salmon. There are a few chum salmon that run up Buck Creek, and a bigger run of salmon go up Deer Creek a half mile down the beach. There is fantastic King Salmon fishing a few miles North of Port Moller, at King Salmon River. There is halibut out in the saltwater. Bear Lake offers outstanding fishing for sockeye salmon, dolly varden and coho salmon in the fall. Nelson Lagoon has a good run of Kings, Sockeye, Coho salmon and steelhead. The Port Moller Hot Springs is a beautiful spot with lots of historical history. Native people lived there 3 thousand years ago and evidence of their existence is still found. There is some fantastic beach combing in the area. We have picked up hundreds of glass fishing floats over the years. The commercial fishing in the area has been a historical event going back to the early 20s or earlier. Huge runs of Sockeye seek there home streams and lakes. One of Alaska first Master Guides Slim Moore owned and hunted out of this cabin during the 60's and 70's. Jim Rearden one of Alaska's famous authors wrote a book about Slim Moore called Slim Moore Master Guide - A Sourdough's Hunting Advetures and Wisdom.
