At Flying Dog Ranch, 22 miles east of Meeker, Colorado, luxurious living, stellar fishing and epic big game hunting converge in a mid-sized ranch with few peers. Situated near the junction of the famed White River and its South Fork, the ranch sits in the heart of territory known since the days of Teddy Roosevelt for exceptional trout and exceptional elk. Any fisher or hunter with an eye towards quality will find it as abundant as the quaking aspens on the Flying Dog Ranch.
The ranch itself is 312 acres of forest of aspen and spruce mixed with verdant meadows of grass at elevations of 7000 to 7600 feet. The ranch itself is 312 acres of forest of aspen and spruce mixed with verdant meadows of grass at elevations of 7000 to 7600 feet. Living accommodations are as fine as they come, for Flying Dog boasts a stylish 3000 square foot home designed by Aspen architect Peter Dobrovolny and a roomy 1200 square foot guest house, attached to a three-car garage. Both homes overlook a trout-filled lake and provide luxurious year-round or seasonal occupancy. A new addition to this property is a 1700-foot grass landing strip and a 48x60-foot hangar/barn onsite to accommodate private planes. In addition, a larger hangar of 80x60 feet located at Meeker airport is included in the sale price.
Sportsmen require little introduction to the White River Country. The nearby Flattops Wilderness is home to one of the largest elk herds in the nation, producing many trophy bulls annually. Elk, mule deer and black bear are frequent visitors to the ranch proper and are abundant in the nearby White River National Forest. The White River is perhaps the finest big-trout river in the state, offering large populations of rainbow and brown trout and mountain whitefish from 14 to 20 inches, with many larger. Two and one half miles of public fishing on the White River are available only a half-mile from the ranch. In addition, the nearby South Fork has many more miles of excellent flyfishing, extending deep into the wilderness. On the ranch itself, fishing is excellent for large trout on a professionally-designed pond that includes an aerator system.
Flying Dog Ranch is equipped to support cattle as well as wildlife, with 40 acres of irrigated meadow, 1.5 CFS of water rights and three adjudicated springs. Ranch improvements include extensive fencing and the 48x60 foot hangar/barn.
It's hard to imagine a finer candidate for a family or corporate retreat or exclusive lodge set in the midst of amazing recreational opportunities than Flying Dog Ranch. Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking and horseback riding are all within easy reach, as is Meeker, one of the West's last authentic ranching communities. Year-round access is excellent by road, and if you own your own plane, Flying Dog Ranch is even closer to home.
