A Note from the Seller

My experience in determining the Yancey County area, particularly Burnsville, was governed by the charming small town America sense of community demonstrated by its residents and the warm town center. This was borne out by a statewide competition in which the Burnsville Town Square was selected the No. 1 town square in NC. I found that civility abounds, people and cars stop for you in traffic, and their friendly manner of engagement impressed me.

I accomplished my goal of purchasing a rustic log home in the woods with modern amenities, privacy in mind with accessibility to services. The beautiful, peaceful, and surrounding sounds of nature abound, with occasional visits by deer, wild turkey strutting past, en route to drink water in the creek down at the end of the walking path in the woods off the fireplace deck. Surrounded by three porches, two of which are covered, sitting on the sheltered porch rockers during the rain is a magical experience, as the drops on the leaves can be heard like music to ones ears, while various visiting birds flit about on the feeders, each waiting their turn in natures interesting pecking order by the alphas of each breed.

The tranquil nature of its location is conducive to renewing my goal of writing my memoir, though its proximity to three golf courses within 20 minutes, nearby small town restaurants within 30 minutes, a multitude of hiking opportunities, and beautiful country roads affording many photo opportunities supporting my passion for serious photography, all, and more, provide so many pleasant distractions beyond the enjoyment of also relaxing and chilling in such a wonderful environment.

Being accessible to so many Asheville-area amenities, dining, entertainment, and cultural opportunities, accessible by safe four-lane highways is definitely a plus.

To me, one of the greatest highlights of the area is that Yancey County has more artists per capita than any city in the United States, with over 100 studios in the mountains and large support by its citizenry for the arts community, led by the Toe River Arts Council and its many exciting town events, from the annual Literary Festival, Old Timey Day, the Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair on the square, and more. The nearby Penland School of Crafts is attended by talented accomplished and emerging artists, also attended by serious art collectors from around the world, as well.
