Located in the Minnesota River Valley area southwest of Sacred Heart and under 2 hours from the Southwest Metro, this property will not only provide opportunities at the quality bucks that roam this area but the ability to hunt waterfowl, pheasants and possibly a turkey or two. Not only is the property located just up out of the river bottom, but it lies just east of the Skalbekken County Park (see photos for location) and to the west of that is the Upper Sioux Agency State Park. Together they make up over 1500 acres that have very limited hunting making this area a great area for big bucks. The property has been restored through the CREP program and is comprised of a mixture of rolling restored tallgrass prairie and wildflowers, dotted thick wetland areas with open water pockets, thick willow fringe areas, a creek/shallow ditch line, established food plot areas and adjacent habitat adjoining the property. Upon walking the property, it was evident that deer utilize the property frequently with tracks, droppings, and trails all over. The corn food plots left from 2016 were absolutely wiped out by deer. While the property doesn’t have a bunch of timber on it, the prairie grass grows back tall and, with the low thick seclusion areas, provides great bedding areas and cover with cropland next to it for food sources. Food plots provide additional food that will remain later into the season. Speaking of food plots, along with additional habitat enhancements, there are currently approximately 4 acres of food plot plantings but per the conservation plan, one could expand this to 5 acres and look at the potential to modify the conservation plan to include more tree plantings. The cover from a pheasant standpoint is perfect for nesting and early season hunting. The property also has wintering cover so you can shoot roosters all season long. There are also some open water pockets as a result of the wetland restorations that occurred that would allow you to pitch out a few decoys and hunt waterfowl. Have a need to build a home or a hunting cabin? There is roughly a 2-acre building site designated out on the west side of the property which is located on a dead end road for great privacy. You have to see this property in person to fully understand the makeup of this property so give me a call and I’d be glad to discuss any questions that you have!
