Water: The ranch is extremely well watered with 9 lakes. In 2009 the owner completely reworked and improved the ranch watering system. In 2009 the lakes were all cleaned out and enlarged with an average depth of 20 feet. The owner also built a new lake in 2009 which encompasses over 40 surface acres when full. Over 6 miles of 6-8” pvc was also installed as a supplemental water delivery system to keep the lakes full at all times, even in dry conditions. The PVC delivery system is fed by a Carrizo irrigation well that has a pumping capacity of 800 gpm. The water well and pump was replaced with bran new equipment in 2009. The irrigation well is currently equipped to run off of a diesel generator which could be converted with electric three phase if the new owner desired. In addition to the irrigation well, the owner has recently completed a new water well to service all the building improvements on the property. The ranch also has access to three water meters along the perimeter if the new owner desired to hook into the community water system. These meters are valuable in the event the ranch were divided in the future.
Wildlife: Buckhorn Creek ranch has one of the best upcoming whitetail deer herds in South Texas. In the 2008-2009 season, the owner harvested all native deer on the ranch. Several of these bucks have potential to exceed 200 B&C in the next year! The owner has also injected a trophy herd of axis deer on the ranch for guest entertainment. In addition to the deer herd, the ranch offers superb quail, dove, and turkey hunting. Several areas of the ranch have been enhanced for quail habitat and multiple food plots have been established for dove hunting on a very large scale. Comments: One of the finest and most scenic ranches we have ever had this close to San Antonio. A full years worth of work has just been completed on the improvements. The combination of thick native bush, big hardwoods, and scenic creek bottoms make this ranch feel like it is three times the size! A real jewel that won’t last long.
