As you enter the property, you are able to park on the graveled lot in front of the 30X48 steel building, complete with electricity and a living quarters inside. The front half of this building provides adequate storage for equipment and offers a great space to process game and entertain. Stepping outside you will notice the beginning of numerous tree plantings, and an incredible stand of CRP, complete with well-maintained firebreaks. These nearly 6-foot-tall stands of native warm season grasses provide excellent bedding habitat and security for deer, turkey and pheasants to utilize year-round. The strategically placed firebreaks not only serve a purpose for prairie management, but also provides additional green browse; and coincidently creates tremendous funnels for deer using these transition areas to move from bed to food.

This property sets up beautifully to access the strategically placed box blinds overlooking the established food plots. As you work your way to these blinds, you will see along the timbers edge is littered with rubs and scrapes. These edges have been perfectly manicured to provide additional structure and habitat. Complete with edge feathering, cedar plantings, aspen cuts, and a number of oak plantings at various stages of life. The extent of these tree plantings can be seen in the direct seedings that have been managed over the years, hemlocks planted in the timber, as well as the massive fenced in conifer planting; all adding to the holding capacity for deer on this farm.

The timber itself is everything you could ask for in Northeast Iowa. A nice mix of Oak, walnut, and hickory provide a tremendous mast crop for wildlife, and make for an October and November backdrop that many of us dream about. These hardwood ridges have many pinch points throughout, and the TSI work that has been done also creates additional bedding and nesting areas while protecting new growth created by these regenerative management practices. These ridges are easily traversable, with additional trails coming up from the bottom for easy access for a morning hunt, as well as a road down to the backside of the farm where you can find another food plot.
