Scott-McHannon tract is located in the Blevins School District and just minutes from Interstate 30. Due to an improved road system, much of the property can be logged during a good portion of the year. Timber consists primarily of pine plantation established in 2001 (currently Age 10). The plantation was established using 2nd generation improved loblolly seedlings, following intensive site preparation and herbaceous weed control. The stream management zone (SMZ) contains merchantable pine and hardwoods. Terrain is gently rolling. Boundary lines are painted blue. Site index is high for loblolly pine on Alaga fine sand, Briley loamy fine sand, and Smithton fine sandy loam.
The tract contains 89 acres of 2001 pine plantation with balance of tract in SMZ, roads, and native forest. Access is excellent with frontage on two county roads (Hempstead County #16 and #205). Plantation was established in 2001 with 2nd generation loblolly of Seed source LB-UGC-3LSG245-H-L-98-L-8. Site preparation with Accord and Chopper. Herbaceous weed control (Arsenal with Oust XP) was applied immediately after planting in 2001. Stocking and growth have been excellent, with about 700 trees/acre, with average of 6 dbh. First pulpwood thinning is expected to be available in three to five years.
