Twenty-foot strips of clover that all wildlife enjoy can be found throughout the property. It has a variety of cover types including white pine plantings, bushes such as red dogwood, silky dogwood, gray dogwood, and hazelnut to name a few. All oak species that are native to Illinois are planted throughout the property as well as stands of warm season grasses, fruit trees, persimmon trees and chestnuts. In 1994, the owner started working with Kevin Woods, a Wildlife Biologist, and together they created a plan for the whole property. His angle was for wildlife as a whole, and the owners' was to hold big whitetail. They made a great team. That plan has changed some throughout the years, but the focus has remained the same. That is, to make it the very best it can be. It doesn’t just hold big whitetail; all wildlife flourishes there. Some of the things they’ve done include square block plantings of pine trees and red cedars which are used for windbreaks and which all kinds of birds love to call home. White pine and bushes planted together in some areas to create wonderful wildlife habitat. Also planted are a few fruit trees with persimmon trees around the outside. American chestnut trees, fruit trees, oaks, and several acres of warm season grasses have also been added to the landscape of this farm. Additionally, Imperial whitetail clover has been planted throughout the property providing a year-round food source not only for whitetail but also for young turkeys and quail. The farm has two food plots that are planted beans in every year to give wildlife the protein they need in late winter. In 1995, the owner began working through the wooded part of the property to improve it by cutting down or hinge cutting the undesirable trees, depending on what the location called for, creating thick cover which big bucks love. The property had an old pond on it with a broken dam so the dam was repaired, and that has been an excellent magnet for wildlife. There is also has a natural spring on the farm. Habitat has been created around stand sites to bring everything together at that spot. The current owner feels blessed to have been able to work and improve this property and was named landowner of the year in Illinois Region V in 2007.
